eMusic says it now has over 250,000 subscribers worldwide. The company reported it passed the 200,000-subscriber mark four months ago.

eMusic has since expanded into Europe in September 2006, making its service
available throughout the European Union. Growing subscribers for eMusic -- a pre-pay download service that offers independent music in the MP3 format -- come as debate continues to swirl over the major labels' need to continue to sell music files protected by digital rights management.

"When you offer [music] in a format that plays on any device, you sell a lot
of it," says eMusic President and CEO David Pakman.
