Chris Ancliff has been elevated to the role of EMI Group general counsel, taking overall responsibility for all the company's legal affairs.

Ancliff, who has served as senior VP, legal affairs, and associate general counsel since April 2002, is elevated in light of the decision of Charles Ashcroft to scale back his duties for health reasons.

Ashcroft, who has served for the past 10 years as EMI Group's general counsel and company secretary, will continue to support the chairman and board as company secretary.

Ashcroft, who joined EMI in November 1996 as group general counsel, was described by Eric Nicoli, CEO of EMI Group, as "a great support and source of advice and expertise" during his tenure.

Ancliff, Nicoli adds, "has successfully served as EMI's deputy general counsel for several years and his well earned promotion to general counsel will ensure that we have a smooth transition."

Ancliff joined EMI in 1998 as VP, legal and business affairs, for EMI's then international division. From 2000 to 2002, he served as VP, legal and business affairs, for EMI Music Continental Europe. Prior to joining the firm, he served in several legal roles for PolyGram, which was subsequently acquired by Universal. Going forward, he will report to Nicoli.
