Argentine producer, composer and songwriter Gustavo Santaolalla nabbed the Oscar for best original score for the film "Babel." This is Santaolalla's second consecutive Academy Award; last year he won for the score for "Brokeback Mountain."

Aside from his current work in films, Santaolalla is well known in the Latin music world as a pioneer of Latin alternative and rock music, thanks to his work as a producer with the likes of Juleita Venegas, Molotov, Bersuit, Café Tacuba and, most recently, Juanes.

Santaolalla launched his career as a co- founder of Argentine rock band Arco Iris. He has also released several solo albums and has been behind projects like Bajofondo Tango Club.
