A grassroots group of podcasting aficionados are hoping to catapult an indie artist to the top of the iTunes digital track chart this week in an initiative called Bum Rush The Charts.

The group is running promotional videos on YouTube and other sites, as well as in various podcasts of participating broadcasters, to encourage music fans to buy the song "Mine Again" by the band Black Lab on March 22.

The idea is twofold. First, it is designed as "as a demonstration of our reach to Main Street and our purchasing power to Wall Street," according to the Bumrushthecharts.com site. Secondly, the group is asking buyers to make the purchase through its iTunes affiliate store. The proceeds it receives from the sale of the track will be donated to various college scholarships.
