Mexican singer/songwriter Marco Antonio Solis was named songwriter of the year at the 15th annual ASCAP Latin music awards. The ceremony, held March 21 at New York City's Nokia Theatre, also honored Venezuelan Franco de Vita and Mexico's Joan Sebastian for career achievement.

Sebastian's composition, "Mas Alla del Sol," published by Vander Music, was one of three songs that shared song of the Year honors. The other two were Aventura's "Un Beso," written by Anthony Santos and published by Premium Latin Publishing, and Rakim and Ken-Y's "Down," written by Ken-Y, Rakim, Rafael Pina and Wise and published by Mafer Music Publishing and Sony/ATV Discos Music Publishing.

Publisher of the year honors went to Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The ASCAP Latin music awards honor the songwriters and publishers of ASCAP's most performed Latin songs of 2006.
