This should be taken with the same grain of salt as all other Apple rumors swilling about, but the CEO of Intent Mediaworks says he expects Apple to unveil a subscription music service within six months.

Intent's Les Ottolenghi tells CNN Money that after several recent meetings with Apple, he's convinced the subscription service is near.

"I think Apple is seriously considering a subscription offering right now even though they will probably tell you otherwise," he says.

Given Apple's penchant for remaining tight-lipped about anything it's working on -- and demanding the same of its partners -- Ottolenghi's remarks may not help his company's chances of doing business with the digital music giant.

Speculation over an Apple subscription service is nothing new. The company supposedly hired a crew of techies to work on a proprietary Apple subscription software system two years ago, and Jobs has tempered his criticism of subscription services of late.
