The Japanese government will soon file a complaint with the World Trade Organization concerning China's allegedly insufficient protection of copyright and intellectual-property rights, a well-placed Japanese entertainment-industry source tells Billboard.biz.

Word of Tokyo's impending WTO action follows Washington's April 9 filing of two complaints with the WTO over what the United States claims is widespread copyright piracy and restrictions on distribution of foreign music, movies and books in China.

Another industry source, meanwhile, says the European Union is considering filing a WTO complaint over copyright protection in China.
