Crispin Evans will exit as general counsel of the MCPS-PRS Alliance, with immediate effect, after his post was made redundant.

In a statement issued today, the Alliance paid respect to Evans for having dealt with "a number of significant issues," since joining the U.K. collecting society in August 2005.

"These included the settlement of the Copyright Tribunal with the BPI," the Alliance said. "He has led the Alliance's interaction with the European Commission in its efforts to create new licensing structures for pan-territorial licensing of rights, and has dealt with a number of other issues raise by DG Competition and DG Internal Market."

Before joining the Alliance, Evans, a long-time British publishing executive, was senior VP, international legal and business affairs with Universal Music Publishing Group. A qualified barrister, Evans has more than 25 years' experience in music publishing, including stints with EMI and Polygram, which is now incorporated into Universal Music Group.

His departure comes on the heels of Steve Porter's promotion from managing director to chief executive of the Alliance.
