Music-based social networking service Imeem and digital music registry SnoCap have flipped the switch on their previously announced ad-supported music service today (June 20).

The service is designed to identify which artist's songs are being streamed at any given time, and compensate that artist with a share of the revenue Imeem collects from selling advertising on the site.

Imeem has licensing agreements with a number of independent labels and digital distributors including Nettwerk, Beggars Group and Matador Records. It claims to offer a total of around 3 million tracks.
