KCRW 89.9, a Los Angeles radio station, will shut down its 3 internet radio webstreams on June 26 in protest of new internet royalty rates. The elevated rates were determined by the Copyright Royalty Board in March. Barring any changes, the new rates will go into effect July 15, and are retroactive to 2006.

KCRW will produce a one hour program entitled "D-Day for Webcasters" featuring fellow internet radio broadcasters Pandora, Live 365, Yahoo, AccuRadio, SomaFM, Bagel Radio, and WAMU/Washington, D.C.

Webcasters are supporting the Internet Radio Equality Act, a bill that would establish rates that are similar to those enjoyed by satellite radio firms.
