Universal Music Publishing Group has signed an exclusive agreement with former Cars frontman Ric Ocasek to administer his catalog of songs for the world excluding the United States.

The catalog of Ocasek, a songwriter, artist and producer, includes his interests in the Cars' "Candy-O," "Drive," "Just What I Needed," "Magic," "My Best Friend's Girl," "Shake It Up," "Since You're Gone" and "You Might Think."

Although the Universal deal excludes administration rights for the United States, it includes worldwide synchronization rights. The Cars' songs have been included in films like "Herbie Fully Loaded," "Transformers," "Click" and "Nancy Drew" as well as television programs like "What About Brian," "Brotherhood," "Las Vegas," "CSI" and others.

"Ric Ocasek's hits for the Cars represent a seminal piece of modern rock and pop history," says David Renzer, UMPG chairman/CEO. "It's a true privilege for us to welcome Ric to the Universal Music Publishing Family."
