Tropical music icon Juan Luis Guerra will be honored as the 2007 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year.

Guerra, known for his contemporary reinterpretations of traditional bachata, will be fetted at a Nov. 7 tribute dinner and concert in Las Vegas.

The gala will precede the 8th annual Latin Grammys awards, to be held Nov. 8 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center and broadcast live on the Univision network.

Guerra is a multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy award winner whose most recent album, "La Llave de Mi Corazón," spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart.

Guerra is being honored as much for his musical contributions as for his humanitarian work through his Juan Luis Guerra y 440 Foundation, which provides aid for needy children in Guerra's home country, Dominican Republic.

In 2006, Guerra received the Billboard Spirit of Hope award for his work with the foundation.

Guerra is the eighth Person of the Year title bestowed by the Latin Academy. Past honorees include producer Emilio Estefan and Brazilian singer/songwriter Gilberto Gil.
