Video hosting service DivX has filed suit against Universal Music Group (UMG) in response to the major label's claim that DivX’s Stage6 service is infringing copyrighted materials, according to published reports.

The move is similar to that of Veoh Networks, which filed a pre-emptive suit against UMG in August, in an attempt to block any potential legal action. UMG sued Veoh last week claiming copyright infringement.

UMG alleges that services like Stage6 and Veoh are infringing on copyrights by allowing unlicensed content to be featured on their services.

DivX says it complies with every content takedown request it receives.
