British music lawyer David Kent of international law firm Seddons died last night of pancreatic cancer. He was 54.

Kent, an expert in commercial contract negotiation, intellectual property rights and media-related dispute resolution, served as head of media and entertainment at London-based Seddons since 1997.

A former musician, Kent worked as an in-house lawyer for EMI (then Thorn EMI) from 1980, until he joined Seddons as a partner in 1988. He leaves behind a wife, Marilyn, and daughter Charlotte.

The funeral takes place on Sunday.
