Rapper Pitbull, born Armando Perez, was arrested and charged early Friday morning (Dec. 21) for allegedly driving while under the influence. The 26-year-old Miami native is currently being held in the Miami Dade county jail.

According to TMZ.com, Pitbull was stopped after driving past a marked police car doing 93 MPH in a 55 zone. After neglecting to get out the car a few times the rapper finally stepped out, claimed "this is a big waste of your time" to the arresting officers and failed a sobriety test. Pitbull was taken into custody and later refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test, according to police reports obtained by the site.

"Mr. Perez will be pleading not guilty to all charges," said Angela N. Martinez, P.A., legal representative for Pitbull, via a statement. "This is all the unfortunate result of a misunderstanding. Mr. Perez and his legal team are confident that these charges will not be upheld. Mr. Perez asked me to remind everyone to drink responsibly during this holiday season."

Pitbull is expected to see a judge later today. Bail was set at $1,000.

The Cuban-American rapper's latest LP, The Boatlift, was released late last month. The album currently sits in the #24 spot on Billboard's most recent independent albums sales chart.
