Halifax's Joel Plaskett Emergency was the notable winner at the Canadian East Coast Music Awards on Sunday, taking six ECMAs at the event gala in Fredericton, N.B.

Dave Gunning, The Rankin Family and Jamie Sparks each took two awards, while George Canyon took McDonald's Entertainer of the Year for the fourth consecutive year.

Joel Plaskett Emergency, the rock act led by singer/songwriter Joel Plaskett, took the event's key awards, including recording of the year for the album Ashtray Rock, as well as single of the year and songwriter of the year. The band was also named best group.

The one hour condensed version of the show, hosted by Barenaked Ladies frontman Steven Page, will be broadcast on the CBC in Canada on March 2.
