Mobile content retailer Thumbplay raised $18 million in series E fundraising provided by Brookside Capital Partners and Cross Creek Capital. The company said the funds would be used to develop additional tools provided to partners licensing content to the service, and to expand internationally.

Thumbplay is a direct-to-consumer mobile content service that sells ringtones, wallpapers, games and other mobile content directly to mobile users without going through the carrier content portal. Most recently, it secured a licensing deal with Sony BMG.
