MTV Tr3s is kicking off its "Tr3s Pass" tour franchise with a six-city run by groundbreaking urban duo Calle 13. The channel is also supporting the tour and the release of Calle 13's newest album with a special promo campaign and additional programming.

Calle 13 will headline the channel's "Tr3s Pass" tour beginning Oct. 9 at New York City's Nokia Theatre. The tour hits Miami's La Covacha Oct. 10, Chicago's Volcan Oct. 30, Houston's Warehouse Oct. 31, San Francisco's Regency Ballroom Nov. 14 and Los Angeles' Club Nokia Nov. 15.

A support act was being finalized at press time, with plans in the works for additional opening acts to be added to the lineups locally.

The tour is co-produced by AEG Live and MTV Tr3s. Calle 13's latest on Sony BMG, "Los De Atras Vienen Conmigo," is due Oct. 7.

MTV Tr3s has attached its brand to existing tours, but "this is the first time we've been thoroughly involved in a tour from its inception," says Michael Galbe, VP of music and talent for MTV Tr3s. In addition to inviting talent, the channel is designing artwork for the tour and incorporating special programming to drive ticket sales.

"Without a doubt, we want to roll this out every year," says Jesus Lara, senior VP of music and talent for MTV Tr3s and MTV/VH1 Latin America. Sponsorships were being sought as of press time but haven't been finalized. Calle 13's first performance of songs from the new album will come at a Sept. 4 party in Hollywood prior to the MTV Video Music Awards. The concert will be available for viewing on mtv.com and mtvtr3s.com beginning on Sept. 5. MTV Tr3s viewers in Los Angeles and Phoenix will also be able to catch a TV broadcast of clips from the concert right before the VMAs air on Sunday, Sept. 7.

Calle 13 will also be featured in the "Artists Speaking Tr3s" campaign, a series of extended vignettes around a selected artist. While the campaigns generally include interview- and video-based specials, the group will also have its Sept. 4 pre-VMA show broadcast on MTV Tr3s as a 30-minute program.
