Wireless carrier Movistar has brought its fledgling digital label, Sello Movistar, to Colombia. Artists can post their music and create a profile at artistasmovistar.com or via the label’s mobile portal, and have their music heard and rated by other users. The site’s highest-rated artists will be considered for marketing, promotion and tour sponsorship by the carrier, which will sign the artists to full-rights deals.

Sello Movistar launched in Spain earlier this year, and its first breakout act, Ragdog, played at the Rock in Rio festival in Madrid this summer. Sello Movistar will be launched in 12 countries in Latin America, according to the carrier, and will be managed by a Spanish firm called Innova. The label's team is said to include music industry professionals with experience in management, marketing, touring and executive production.

The company says its Spanish site has had about 100,000 visits and 400 registered artists in less than 10 months. Label rep Diego Pradilla says the Ragdog project has been profitable, with 25,000 full tracks and 32,000 ringtones sold in the month since the content was made available.

Movistar has also launched a digital music store in Colombia with a million full tracks available for download online or via mobile, payable via SMS. The site has content from all four major labels as well as a host of independents. Per-track downloads cost about 85 cents each, including all transmission costs; a spokeswoman for Movistar says the price will be re-evaluated after three months.
