Mexican entertainment retail chain Mixup will launch a DRM-free digital download store this year, according to labels' trade group IFPI.

The organization's Digital Music Report 2009 cited progress being made in digital music sales around the world, noting that Mixup's download store would be the first in the region to offer music free of digital rights management.

Mixup had no comment on the report at press time. The chain's parent company, Grupo Carso, currently operates Beon.com, one of the first online download stores in the region-though it sells music with DRM copyright protection.

Beon.com launched an MP3 mini-store on its site in 2007, with independent catalog from Mexican label Noiselab.
