Dover, one of Spain's most important rock bands of the past 15 years, has signed a multi-album deal with Sony Music Entertainment Spain.

Led by sisters Amparo (guitarist) and Cristina (singer) Llanos, Dover has sold more than 1.5 million units of their six English-language albums since their 1995 debut "Sister" (Everlasting-Caroline), according to the labels body Promusicae.

Dover has been the most successful indie-label band in Spanish history, selling 800,000 units of their 1997 second album "Devil Came To Me" (Subterfuge Records), which led to the Madrid band being snapped up by EMI Chrysalis.

"Devil Came To Me" was later released in several countries including Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Greece and Portugal. It also confirmed Dover as easily the most successful Spanish outfit singing in English.

Dover's 1998 album "Late At Night" (EMI Chrysalis) was recorded in Seattle in recognition of their grunge influences, selling 300,000 units. Their 2001 album, "I Was Dead For 7 Weeks In The City Of angels," released on their own label Loli Jackson Records and distributed by EMI, sold 215,000 units.

By this time the band was playing gigs and festivals across Europe and in the U.S., including opening for U.K. rock band Oasis in Mexico. They performed at SXSW in Austin, Texas, in 1999 and 2000, and in 2000 won the MTV Europe best Spanish artist award. Dover has also won more than a dozen domestic music awards.

In 2006, the group introduced a radical change to their style, away from rock-grunge to electro-dance-pop, with the album "Follow The City Lights" (EMI Chrysalis), which has sold 160,000 units, says the label.

Sony Music Entertainment Spain president Carlos López says the signing of Dover should not be a surprise. "Dover is one of Spain's most important groups from the '90s and in this decade," he comments. "They have sold 125,000 albums in the last year alone, and have a lot to offer in the future. They are dedicated to music, and still rehearse every day".

López said he expects Dover's first Sony release to be in January or February 2010.
