Amy Winehouse has been charged with assault following an incident at a charity ball in London's Berkeley Square in 2008, her spokesman confirmed.

"Amy voluntarily attended a police station in London yesterday morning," he said in a statement. "She was questioned by appointment in relation to an accusation made after the Berkeley Ball last year. She was charged with common assault and will attend a court hearing in the coming weeks."

The hearing will take place at Westminster Magistrates' Court on March 17, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The ball was held Sept. 26 last year.
