U2 have sold over 215,000 tickets in under 24 hours for the U.K. and Ireland leg of their global "360°" tour, according to Live Nation.

Tickets for U2's dates, which include performances at London's Wembley Stadium (Aug. 14) and two homecoming sets at Croke Park, Dublin (July 24 and 25), went on sale at 9am on March 20. According to a Live Nation spokesman, 6,700 tickets for the Wembley stadium date were sold in just 60 seconds, a sales figure the promoter claims is the fastest rate ever in the U.K.

Elsewhere in the country, opening day sales surpassed 50,000 tickets for the Cardiff Millennium stadium performance (Aug. 22) and over 41,000 tickets each for concerts in Glasgow Hampden Park (Aug. 18) and Sheffield Don Valley Stadium (Aug. 20).

The band's ever-reliable Irish fan base were also out in force, snapping up the complete allocation of 160,000 tickets for the band's two shows at Croke Park, Dublin on July 24 and 25 in less than 40 minutes.

A second and final date at London's Wembley Stadium has since been added. Tickets go on sale on March 27 at 9am.

Commenting on the demand, Arthur Fogel, CEO global touring/chairman, Global Music Live Nation, said he was delighted with the response, adding: "The fans are really excited about the amazing staging, the u2.com microsite has been hugely popular."

Strong sales for the band's U.K.'s shows mirror demand across Europe with complete sell-outs already announced in Milan (July 7), Paris (July 11), Nice (July 15), Amsterdam (July 20) and Gothenburg (July 31). According to Live Nation figures, 312,000 European tickets for the U2 360° Tour were sold over two days following their general sale on March 13 (Milan and Gothenburg) and March 14 (Amsterdam).

Second shows were subsequently added in Gothenburg (Aug. 1), Milan (July 8), Paris (July 12) and Amsterdam (July 21).

As first revealed by Billboard on March 6, the tour, produced by Live Nation Global Touring and sponsored by smartphone brand Blackberry, kicks off at Barcelona's Nou Camp on June 30.

Tickets for the Barcelona date go on sale March 25. Tickets for remaining performances at Paris, Berlin, Gelsenkirchen and Zagreb all go on sale 10am March 27.
