The German Echo Klassik awards will move from Munich to Dresden this year. The ceremony takes place on Oct. 18 at the Semperoper venue.

The awards show is returning to Dresden for the first time since 1996. The previous five ceremonies have taken place in Munich.

"Dresden is an important politico-cultural place of world standards," says Dieter Gorny, CEO of the Association of the German music-Industry (BVMI) and chairman of the German Phono-Academy that organizes the Echo awards show.

The Echo Klassik awards are presented in 21 categories. The winners will be announced in June.

German TV-channel ZDF will again broadcast the awards show on Oct. 18 with a delay of two hours.
