A federal appeals court in Massachusetts says a hearing in a music downloading lawsuit can't be streamed online.

The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Thursday that it was bound to a local rule that closes federal courtrooms to broadcasting. The court says that includes webcasting.

The Recording Industry of Association of America had sued a Boston University graduate student over music downloads.

A Harvard professor representing the student had requested that a video service be allowed to transmit a hearing. The recording industry said that would prevent it from getting a fair trial.
