Canadian music television station MuchMusic announced nominations for its 2009 video awards today (May 27), with Canadian rockers Nickelback and pop singer Danny Fernandes leading the way.

Nickelback received five nominations, tying with Danny Fernandes for the most award nominations, followed closely by Vancouver punk band Marianas Trench, who garnered four. Other nominees include rapper Classified, art-rockers Midway State, singer/songwriter Lights and hip-hop artist k-os.

The show airs live on June 21 and is being hosted by the Jonas Brothers, with performances by Lady Gaga and others.

"From East Coast to West Coast, we've seen some amazing Canadian artists and music videos this year," Brad Schwartz, SVP, the Much MTV Group, said in a statement. "We listen to our fans all year long and then we throw an awards show like no other. The [MuchMusic Video Awards] are all about our fans and a celebration of the musicians and celebrities they love."
