According to Nielsen Media Research, the memorial service for Michael Jackson on Tuesday (July 7) totaled a combined 20.5 household rating with 30.92 million viewers on the 19 networks carrying it from approximately 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The participating networks were ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, Telefutura, Telemundo, Univision, CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, Headline News, BET, E!, MTV, VH1, VH1 Classic, TV Guide Network, TV ONE, and MUN2.

Comparably, this was third most-watched memorial service behind President Ronald Reagan’s burial on Friday, June 11, 2004 (35.07 million) and Princess Diana’s funeral on Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997 (33.25 million).

National results for actual funerals include 20.81 million for Reagan, 15.03 million for President Ford (2007) and 7.89 million for Pope John Paul II (2005).
