-- The annual Ritmo Latino buyers' convention isn't happening this year "due to the economy," says Ritmo president David Massry. He wouldn't elaborate. The convention, in which Ritmo buyers and managers fly out to Los Angeles to meet with sales reps from all the majors as well as independents, DVD, candy and gift sellers, is traditionally held in August. The swanky multi-day event has been a key showcase venue for new priority acts to perform, as well as an opportunity for the independent chain to show off its new locations - which were still opening as of last year's convention. Earlier this year, Billboard reported that several Ritmo locations had been converted to T-Mobile stores.
