Yahoo's Bix online karaoke contest website has apparently shut down. Originally brought to light by TechCrunch, Yahoo later confirmed it closed the service on June 30. A company representative said the decision was part of Yahoo's "ongoing prioritization" efforts. Yahoo bought the Bix site in July of 2006 as part of a rash of online karaoke services that also included KSolo (acquired by NewsCorp in May of 2006) and SingShot (acquired by Electronic Arts in February of 2007).

Bix in fact was rated on of the Top 100 Web sites of the year for 2007 by Time Magazine, and Capitol Records conducted a "next great country singer" contest via the service.
