Colombia is to be the guest country at the 16th La Mar de Músicas world music festival in Spain next year, following this year's edition with Morocco as the invited country, festival organizers have announced.

More than 60,000 people watched concerts, saw films and went to art exhibitions in the south-eastern port-city of Cartagena, where the festival is held annually over the last three weeks in July.

'Sold Out' signs were placed outside several concerts, including those by rai singer Khaled and Cuban new trova singer Pablo Milanés, as well as shows by Emir Kusturica, Madeleine Peyroux, Orquesta Chekara de Tetuán, Lucinda Williams, Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club and La Mala Rodríguez & Calle 13.

Almost 70% of the tickets to enter the concerts were purchased online, and the festival's website (lamardemusicas.com) received more than 1.5 million visitors.
