Legendary Pictures is working on a feature film about Jimi Hendrix and producers are hopeful about securing rights to his songs, according to Variety.

The report states that Legendary has had early discussions with the estate of Hendrix, who died in 1970.

There have been attempts to develop films by others before but Experience Hendrix, the gatekeeper to the musician's estate, has not granted music rights.

Variety reports that Legendary intends to develop the project first, then try to secure the cooperation of the estate.

Legendary president and CEO Thomas Tull is to produce the film with Bill Gerber, while Max Borenstein will write the script.
