R.E.M. is to release a new double live album entitled "R.E.M. Live At The Olympia". The Warner Bros. Records release makes its international bow Oct. 26 and a day later in the U.S.

The two-CD set is produced by Jacknife Lee and features 39 songs recorded during the band's five-night stand at Dublin's Olympia Theater in July 2007.

Performing exclusively in front of fan-club members, friends, family and fans, R.E.M.'s five shows at the Olympia Theater saw the band road test new material, which would eventually surface on the critically acclaimed 2008 studio set "Accelerate."

"We were just trying to do something we hadn't done before, which meant there was no relaxing during the set," said guitarist Peter Buck in a statement. "Every second we were playing something we didn't know all that well. Which was kind of good -- there were all kinds of terror elements going on during that show."

As well as providing fans with alternate versions of "Accelerate" tracks, "Live At The Olympia" will also include two previously unreleased songs "On The Fly" and "Staring Down The Barrel Of The Middle Distance," which were only ever performed live. In addition, the package features a range of live material from R.E.M.'s catalog including songs from early albums "Murmur," "Reckoning," "Fables of the Reconstruction" and "Life's Rich Pageant."

"R.E.M. Live At The Olympia" will be released in a standard double CD format as well as a special edition double CD/DVD, including concert and backstage footage.
