Spanish language network Telemundo has teamed up with State Farm Insurance to produce an eight-hour reality show documenting the creation and launch of a new musical act. "La Banda del Pueblo" (The People's Band) premieres Sept. 13 on Telemundo and Sept. 20 on sister station mun2. The show will run weekly on both Telemundo and mun2.

The show documents the trials and tribulations of a group of regional Mexican musicians who came together as a band during a State Farm casting call.

The group, originally called Los Felinos de la Noche, went on to perform at multiple events, including the Billboard Latin Music Conference last April.

Now, one of the objectives of the show will be to find a new name for the band. Since August 28, polls began to run nationally on holamun2 (Mun2's Web site) and locally on Telemundo's Los Angeles station Web sites with viewers voting on their favorite band name.

"La Banda del Pueblo" is a departure in that the original idea came from State Farm, which approached Telemundo and is producing the show with State Farm's advertising agency, Alma DDB, its partner company FiRe Advertainment, and media agency OMD.

Production began on August 17 and will end with a performance by the band at the Telemundo special "El Grito" concert in Universal Studios CityWalk on September 2.
