U.K. pop singer Cheryl Cole has scored the highest first-day sale of the year with her debut single "Fight For This Love" (Fascination/Polydor), according to the Official Charts Co. She is set to go to No. 1 and could also have the biggest weekly sale of the year to date.

Cole, a member of girl group Girls Aloud, launched her solo side project in earnest with a performance on TV talent show "The X Factor" on Sunday (Oct. 18). Cole is also a judge on the show alongside Simon Cowell and Dannii Minogue.

Whitney Houston also performed on the results show, which broadcaster ITV said had its biggest peak audience ever, with a five-minute peak of 14.8 million viewers. The average audience was 12.7 million.

Cole moved more than 130,000 singles on Monday (Oct. 19), compared to almost 90,000 for "X Factor" 2008 winner Burke's sophomore single "Bad Boys" (Syco/Sony Music Entertainment) a week earlier. "Bad Boys" went on to reach No. 1 on Oct. 18 with total sales of 187,000, but Cole is in a strong position to topple her and achieve the biggest weekly sale of the year.
