Daddy Yankee formally announced his new distribution and licensing deal with Sony Music Latin during a press conference on Jan. 26 in Miami.

The singer, who will release his new album, “Daddy Yankee Mundial,” later this Spring, will release the album on his own El Cartel Records, with distribution by Sony Music Latin here in the United States and Puerto Rico. In other territories, the album will be released as a license via Sony Music Latin.

“We see him as a world-wide artist and that’s what the deal reflects,” says Ruben Leyva, managing director for Sony Music Latin.

Yankee hinted at other business deals in the works with Sony but did not elaborate. The singer just released his new single, “Grito Mundial,” a soccer themed song which may be tied in some way to the upcoming World Cup.

Yankee’s 2004 groundbreaking album “Barrio Fino,” was the top-selling Latin album of the decade, according to Billboard’s charts.

Yankee was previously distributed by Universal.
