Randy Newman has been nominated twice for an Academy Award in the category for music (original song).

Newman is nominated for "Almost There" and "Down In New Orleans," both of which he wrote for the animated Walt Disney feature "The Princess and The Frog."

The singer-songwriter is nominated alongside composer Reinhardt Wagner and lyricist Frank Thomas for "Loin de Paname" from French musical "Paris 36"; Maury Yeston for "Take It All" from the musical "Nine"; and Ryan Bingham and T. Bone Burnett for "The Weary Kind (Theme from Crazy Heart)" from "Crazy Heart," which stars Jeff Bridges as a country music singer.

The nominees in the music (original Score) category are: James Horner for "Avatar," Alexandre Desplat for "Fantastic Mr. Fox," Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders for "The Hurt Locker," Hans Zimmer for "Sherlock Holmes" and Michael Giacchino for "Up."

Overall, "Avatar" and "The Hurt Locker" lead the Oscar nominations with nine nods each.
