Newcomer Jencarlos Canela and comeback kid Luis Enrique played for nearly 2,000 fans at the inaugural "Billboard en Concierto" show at Miami's Fillmore Theater.

Presented by State Farm, the show was the first of five performances produced by Cárdenas Marketing Network (CMN), Billboard and Telemundo leading up to the 2010 Billboard Latin Music Awards, which will take place April 29.

Additional sponsors for the shows include Western Union, Corona, Ritz, Goya, Time Warner, U.S. Cellular and American Airlines.

The April 7 event was a festive affair that had audiences on their feet for much of the three-plus hour show, with each act performing for well over an hour with full bands. Canela performed first, playing a lengthy set in which he paid homage to a cousin recently killed in a car crash, and where he strove to highlight his musical versatility, playing keyboards and inviting saxophonist Alto Reed onstage.

Luis Enrique closed the show with his full 14-piece band, drawing from his vast catalog as well as performing songs from his comeback album, "Ciclos.

Both Canela and Luis Enrique are multiple finalists to the Billboard Latin Music Awards, in keeping with Billboard en Concierto's objective of bringing music by Billboard finalists to fans nationwide.

The shows now move to Chicago's V Live (April 8), Houston's Stereo Live (April 10) and New York's Nokia Theater (April 15). All three shows will feature Luis Enrique with urban bachata duo Xtreme. A fifth and last show April 17 in Los Angeles' Wiltern Theater will feature Dareyes de la Sierra and El Compa Chuy.
