"American Idol" winner Fantasia Barrino was hospitalized last night (Aug. 9) due to a "medication overdose," according to a report by North Carolina's NewsChannel 36 (WCNC).

Barrino was reportedly taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville at about 8:55 p.m. on Monday night. Sources told WCNC that they did not know what type of medication was involved, although doctors noted that the singer's condition was not life-threatening.

WCNC reports that it was not known whether the overdose was accidental or intentional. However, Charlotte's WBTV is reporting that police sources confirmed that Barrino attempted to commit suicide.

TMZ has reported that a representative for the singer has confirmed the overdose.

Just yesterday, Fantasia made headlines after being named in a divorce lawsuit that accused the singer of being involved in an affair with a married man. The lawsuit, filed by the wife of Antwuan Cook, references a sex tape that Barrino allegedly made with Cook.

The singer is scheduled to release her third album, "Back to Me," on Aug. 24, while her VH1 reality show, "Fantasia for Real," returns for a second season on Sept. 19.
