In celebration of Mexico's bicentennial, Ozomatli will perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on Sept 15.

The Los Angeles-based fusion band will play at the free event along with Ballet Folklorico de la Universidad Veracruzana and Mariachi Los Amigos. The Mexican Embassy, the Mexican Cultural Institute and the Kennedy Center will present the performance.

South of the border, acts including Aleks Syntek and Los Tigres del Norte are gearing up to perform during Mexico City's official celebrations Sept. 15, with a full lineup to be announced at a press conference Aug. 25. Syntek and Jaime Lopez' anthem for the event, "El Futuro es Milenario," will be performed by seven different artists in seven unique arrangements. Camilo Lara, chairman EMI Music Mexico and head of A&R for Latin America, is curating a 26-minute music piece for the bicentennial parade.

Tequila brand Jose Cuervo has also gotten on the bicentennial bandwagon with a mustache contest, in which contenders submit photos of their mustaches for the chance to attend a tequila party with rock band Molotov.
