Thumbplay Music revealed that its mobile music streaming app has been downloaded more than 500,000 times since it was first released earlier this year. It originally came out on the Blackberry platform, and since expanded to Android and the iPhone.

The company is not saying how many of these downloads have converted to subscribers (there’s a free three-day trial after which users must pay $10 a month to continue).

But it has released some interesting user data:
· Nearly 70% of users are male
· The largest user group is 25 – 34-year-olds, followed closely by 35 – 44-year-olds
· 90% of the music is streamed to smartphones vs. PCs/Macs
· 95% of the music streamed is from Thumbplay’s long tail catalog (that is, individual songs outside Thumbplay’s Top 20 most-played songs)

1. Apple – 39%
2. BlackBerry – 36%
3. Android – 25%
