The Machete Music Tour 2010, organized by Latin urban label Machete Music as part of its five-year anniversary celebration, starts Friday night with a sold-out show at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The tour broke ground in the Latin marketplace by virtue of the fact that it's a major trek presented by the label itself, in partnership with AEG. Although many of the featured acts are Machete acts, it also incorporates other major Latin urban acts, including R.K.M. and Ken-Y and Flex.

The opening New York concert will feature a performance from headliner Don Omar, one of Latin music's biggest stars, whose new album, "Meet the Oprhans," is due Nov. 23.

Don Omar will not perform in the ensuing four shows, which will feature Ivy Queen and Tego Calderón as headliners, as well as Cosculluela, Angel y Khriz, Chino y Nacho, Jowell y Randy and Flex. In tandem with the tour, Machete also launched a clothing and merchandise line that will be sold during the shows and later in the year at different retailers, including Hot Topic.

Additional Machete Tour stops will be announced for May 2011. Tour sponsors include Time Warner Cable and SESAC.
