Spanish language radio giant Univision radio has finally signed a multi-year contract for Arbitron’s Portable People Meter in some of the nation’s biggest markets, including New York and Los Angeles.

Although Univision had subscribed to Arbitron PPM ratings in Houston, it had resisted subscribing in other markets due to concerns it had with the service, including sample size. Now, the company will subscribe to PPM in 12 additional markets: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, San Jose, Dallas, Miami, San Diego, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Antonio and Austin. These markets are served by 44 Univision stations.

“Based on the steps taken by Arbitron to date to improve the PPM service, and on Arbitron’s commitment to continue its current efforts to improve the service, we concluded that we could begin subscribing to the PPM service again,” said Ceril Shagrin, executive VP of audience measurement innovation and analytics at Univision Communications Inc.

Univision will continue to subscribe to PPM in Houston and also subscribes to Arbitron’s dairy service in Albuquerque, El Paso, Fresno, MacAllen-Brownsville and Puerto Rico.
