Shazam is digging into all the data it collects from the millions who use the service to identify songs they're hearing to predict the breakthrough acts of next year.

These are songs heard on the radio, played in clubs, and so on. Many of them have not even been released for sale, which offers an interesting glimpse into popularity that other services can't provide.

The emerging U.S. acts most likely to succeed are:

-- Jay Electronica
-- MNDR
-- J Cole
-- CyHi Da Prynce
-- Wiz Khalifa

Shazam has a relatively decent record of predictions. Its 2010 predictions included Ellie Goulding and Nicki Minaj. Last year's predictions included Laday Gaga and Florance and the Machine. And 2008 predictions listed the Ting Tings and Duffy.
