MTV will tape its first-ever "Unplugged" special featuring a regional Mexican act. "Los Tigres del Norte and Friends: MTV Unplugged" will be produced by MTV TR3s: Musica y Más in partnership with Los Tigres, perhaps the most iconic active norteño group.
The special will be taped in Los Angeles in the first quarter of 2011 and will feature guest appearances by Juanes, Calle 13, Zack de la Rocha and Argentine singer/songwriter Andrés Calamaro.
The special will air in the U.S. on Tr3s and abroad on MTV and VH1 Latin America and MTV Spain.
"We're thrilled to join the extraordinary list of artists that have performed on the 'MTV Unplugged' stage, and bring Regional Mexican Music to such a celebrated concert series," Los Tigres said in a statement.
Charlie Singer, senior VP of content and creative for TR3s, will be executive producer of the show and Jesus Lara, senior VP of music and talent strategy for TR3s will co-produce. The show's producer will be Audrey Morrisey of Live Animals, which will serve as the production company.
