Regional Mexican singer/songwriter Joan Sebastian, a recipient of Billboard's Lifetime Achievement Award and widely considered one of the genre's leading names and voices, has signed a recording deal with Universal Music Latin Entertainment.

It's the first label change in decades for Sebastian, who spent 35 years signed to Mexican label Musart (Balboa here in the U.S.) and the first time he signs with a major.

Sebastian said in a statement that after fulfilling his obligations with Musart he was leaving "with great gratitude."

Sebastian's first album under Universal, "Huevos Rancheros," is slated for release April 5.

One of Mexican music's leading composers, Sebastian has also written and produced for the likes of Vicente and Alejandro Fernandez, most recently for the former's latest album on Universal

Sebastian is a top touring act and was part of the 2010 "Los Tres" (The Three) Live Nation U.S. Arena tour alongside Marco Antonio Solis and Alejandro Fernandez.
