Swedish singer-songwriter Lyyke Li will tape an episode of "Unplugged" Friday in New York for airing in April on MTV.
It is MTV's first "Unplugged" this year. Adele shot an episode of the show for VH1 that premieres Friday on television and online Thursday. The TV show is part of the promotion for Li's second album for Atlantic, "Wounded Rhymes," which was released Tuesday.
Joe Cuello, MTV's senior vice president of Creative Music Integration, said "this is an artist who has really fit our agenda. We had her music featured in 'The Hills,' she performed at the Woodies (in 2008). We have looked for opportunities where we can showcase her music. It's great to be alongside her."
Li, who appears on the cover of the current Spin magazine, is a likely candidate for MTV's PUSH (play until someone hears) program that promotes an artist across the networks' various platforms. A significant showcase for MTV and VH1 in the early 1990s, "Unplugged" has been revived over the last two years with eight episodes each year. Adele did her first unplugged in 2009.
