The upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook tablet computer from Research In Motion (RIM) will include an embedded digital music store provided by 7digital, the two companies announced.
The 7digital store lets users search, preview and buy and download MP3s from a library of more that 13 million songs. The service will be available to both U.S. and Canada PlayBook owners, and as such there will be certain territorial restrictions to the music available.
With the deal, 7digital is angling to be the go-to digital music retailer for tablets emerging to compete with the popular iPad. The company last year teamed with Samsung to be the de-facto music service on the Galaxy tablet. 7digital also worked previously with RIM to add a music store to the company's line of BlackBerry smartphones.
The PlayBook is scheduled to hit retail shelves sometime this month.
Vickie Nauman, VP North America for 7digital, is speaking on panels during both the interactive and music portions of SXSW:
