Cloud music subscription service Rdio is opening up its service to developers so that they can add on-demand streaming music capabilities to their apps.
The open API program is good for Web apps and mobile apps that can now add the ability to search and stream all songs and artists in the Rdio catalog. And Rdio is offering a bounty to participating developers for every new Rdio subscriber that joins as a result of discovering the service through any app it's integrated with.
This is an important feature because without an Rdio subscription, users accessing the on-demand streaming feature in any such apps will only be limited to 30-second song samples. Participating developers also get a cut of any a la carte download sales.
Early users of the Rdio developer program include AOL, for its newly announced Play app, Grab.com, Tweetlouder, and the Grammy MusicIsLifeIsMusic website
