Mere weeks after celebrating its one-year anniversary at SXSW, RootMusic today will unveil a major update to its BandPages product for Facebook.
The new update extends many of the features formerly available only to paid users (called Plus membership, which costs $2 a month or $20 a year) to the free Basic tier, and also adds additional new enhancements to the premium tier.
Free users will now get access to custom banners, the ability to collect fan email lists, and offer fans the ability to receive a free song stream for "like"-ing the artists page.
The Plus tier enhancements include video banners, the ability to let fans join different mailing lists for different rewards (such as a free download for providing an email or for Tweeting something about the artist), and other features.
BandPages is a Facebook app that lets artists create customized tabs on their Facebook page, which can contain things like album art, tour dates, and stream music from a RootMusic player. In on year, it's attracted more than 150,000 artists, who collectively send more than 22 million unique views a month to their BandPage profiles.
The app also lets fans share links to songs embedded in artists' BandPage by forwarding the song to other Facebook users walls. According to data provided by the company, more than 32 million tracks were shared from a BandPage to the walls of other Facebook users last month alone.
BandPages is the No. 1-rated music app of Facebook today and the fifth most popular overall.
