Puerto Rican singer/songwriter Luis Fonsi will be the honoree at the ninth annual Fedex/St. Jude Angels & Stars gala, presented by Trafalgar Capital Advisors, and taking place May 14 in Miami's JW Marriot hotel.
Fonsi will receive the 2011 "Al-Rashid Hope Award" for his support and commitment to the mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and his contributions to the music industry. The gala's theme will be "Tropicana Night in Miami," and will feature performances by Chino y Nacho and Spaniard Antonio Orozco.
Proceeds from the evening will go to raising funds for the investigation and medical care that takes place in St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital for children with cancer. The Fedex/St. Jude gala in Miami is an annual affair that honors different musical artists for their contributions to St. Jude's and its programs.
Fonsi has been involved in St. Jude's for several years and has performed in many of the hospital's galas. Last year's honoree was Colombian star Juanes, while Gloria and Emilio Estefan were honored in 2008.
